Just 90 minutes from Sydney, the Blue Mountains offer amazing views, deep valleys, and great experiences. The area gives visitors a perfect mix of nature and fun activities. This guide will help you enjoy the best of this World Heritage area with WILDACRES® as your home base.
The Blue Mountains are named for the blue haze that comes from the eucalyptus forests. The area combines great views with charming towns. The special landscape creates homes for native Australian plants and animals found nowhere else. WILDACRES is fortunate to sit atop 40 Acres of this landscape, home to Wallabies, Wombats, Kangaroos, Black Cockatoos, Gang Gangs and much more.
Listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site since 2000, the Blue Mountains are easy to reach from Sydney. This makes them perfect for weekend trips or longer stays. Each season brings something different, making the mountains worth visiting all year.
Autumn (March-May): See amazing leaf colours in Leura and Blackheath. Temperatures range from 9-19°C, perfect for exploring nature.
Winter (June-August): Experience misty mornings and sometimes light snow at higher points like WILDACRES that is at one of the highest points in the Mountains. The cool air (average 3-12°C) makes our steamy hot tub and dining by a fire extra cozy. Winter offers the clearest views.
Spring (September-November): See colourful gardens during the yearly Leura Gardens Festival. Spring temperatures range from 10-22°C, perfect for walking trails. The clear air makes for great photos.
Summer (December-February): Enjoy long days great for bush walks. While temperatures can reach 30°C, the height keeps it cooler than Sydney. Summer brings wildflowers across the area and an abundance of wildlife.
By Car: The Great Western Highway is the most direct route from Sydney, taking about 90 minutes to reach Katoomba.
By Train: Regular trains leave from Sydney's Central Station to major Blue Mountains towns and Blackheath Station is just 5 mins drive from the door.
